You know the feeling: you reach into your bag for a charger and pull out a knotted ball of cables, earbuds, and an adapter you forgot you owned. Tangled tech wastes time, and loose cords get bent, lost, or left behind in hotel outlets. Here's how to keep everything in order from the first flight to the last.
Start by cutting what you don't need
Most travelers pack cables for devices they never touch. Lay out your tech and ask what you'll actually use on this trip. A realistic kit is usually:
- Phone charger and cable
- A power bank (and its cable)
- Laptop or tablet charger — only if you're bringing the device
- Earbuds or headphones
- One universal travel adapter for international trips
One fewer cable is one fewer thing to tangle.
Bundle each cable so it can't unravel
Loose cords are the root of the problem. Before a trip, coil each cable and secure it: reusable velcro ties, small silicone straps, or even a twist tie will do. Coiled-and-secured cables stack neatly and stay that way through a full day of being jostled in your bag.
Give everything one home
The real fix is keeping all of it in a single dedicated pouch instead of scattered through your bag.
